SWENKA is back this Sunday May 27, at the Wonderland Ballroom this Memorial Day Weekend.

We A Go play for you the sounds of Africa today, deeply rooted in the art, culture and revolutions of the past, and squarely focused on the future. Kuduro, Kwaito, Hip Life, Naija, Coupe-Decale, South African House, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Afro-Pop, and Tropical Bass will all be blended in a pan-African dish simmered hot & spicy.

This time around, we’ve invited DC’s own DJ Munch (Hedrush Music, Africa Underground) to join our celebration of the genre-crossing and rapidly evolving Afropolitan diaspora. Also holding it down from the SWENKA fam are Mothershiester (Africa is Not a Country, Anthology of Booty, Traveling While Black Isn’t Easy) and your host Brian Senyo.

Awesome new music from DC’s Goldin Girl Tribe

Loving this teaser tune from local DC band, Goldin Girls Tribe, featuring production by DJ Cam Jus.

Cam is becoming a moombahton production don, but this is has a bit of an electro-dancehall-bounce bang to it, with Shelly Thunder and Irie li killing the vocals. Love the Biddy-bye sample on the beat.
