Updated:
K La Rock and Brian Senyo want you to WORK THE WALLS. Your favorite awesome twosome (we’re like the Peaches and Herb of this DJ game) are teaming up to bring you a new party guaranteed to jack ya body and sweat ya perm out. Work the Walls is bangin’ hip-hop, go-go, new jack swing, booty bass, Bmore club, dancehall, bugged-out electro and disco-dance skronk. We are taking back the dancefloor and reappropriating our shit. No irony, no rules, no bamas!
About K La Rock & Brian Senyo:
K La Rock and Brian Senyo crank. And if you don’t know what that means you haven’t been in DC long enough. K La Rock has been freakin’ dancefloors since 2002. As one of the founders of the First Ladies DJ Collective, she worked to break the “vinyl ceiling” and put women DJ’s on the map in DC and beyond. Senyo’s been on his grind since the late 90’s, first making a name for himself in Montreal and Boston spinning house, UK garage, and dubstep. We are taking over.

This month, we have one of the local hero’s of the DC music scene, the one and only, Ms K la Rock!
About K La Rock
K La Rock has been freakin’ dancefloors since 2002. As one of the founders of the First Ladies DJ Collective, she worked to empower and promote women DJ’s. Her distinct sound brings together vintage boom-bap, future soul, and electroboogie beats. She’s rocked parties up and down the East Coast and continues to leave asses wigglin’ in her wake.
The Looking Glass Lounge is at 3634 Georgia Avenue, across the street from the Georgia Ave. / Petworth Metro Station.
See you Friday!

Wow…shit gets around QUICK. I remember playing some Baltimore house (now Baltimore club) records in Montreal back in 1999 while I was in school, and people pretty much being like “what the f*ck is this?” NOW, we have the internet creating these mad cross-pollinations of style, cultures and beats. I’m absolutely a by-product of that, so I am not hating in the least. I am also not hating Schlachthofbrox, a DJ and production crew from Munich fusing Baltimore club, kuduro, bass, and dubstep. Basically a good mix of dope beats.
I found out about them from a track they recently did with Spoek from Sweat.X, Belly Full of Pills.

Found this on a blog from Scott C aka The Incubator from MTL. Great interview of LA-based Stones Throw Recordings Artist, Dam Funk. Check the first few minutes where brother is singing live during a DJ set, killing it with the electro-funk groove thing.

Ok, I just saw a few threads on DCist showing some old TV station ID ads and Promos and I had a major flashback to growing up in the 80’s in the DMV. So I trolled Youtube a bit and I am putting together a series of posts of DC TV ads and stations reels. Listen, if you grew up here Jhoon Rhee TV ads and the “Kiss My Bumper” guy should be well known to you!
Jhoon Rhoo Taekwondo ad aka “Nobody Bother’s Me Either”!

I am in the process of redesigning this site, myself. I’d had a bitch of a time finding a Wordpress theme that will allow me to post and show all the things I really want to show. Like videos, mix sets, articles. Shit, just a look I want. So over the month of August, I’ll be pushing pixels and grinding away at Photoshop and Dreamweaver to get this place looking….exactly the way I want it to look and run. That is all from me. Oh and remember, the next edition of The KirkOut is Friday August 14th, at Looking Glass Lounge.
Peace, one love.

That’s right, I’ve got a regular night! The KirkOut kicks off this Friday at The Looking Glass Lounge in Petworth. The idea is bringing back classic, booming nightlife beats from funk, disco, true school hip hop, dancehall, and future classics. The Looking Glass Lounge in Petworth is the spot 3634 Georgia Ave. It’s going down every second Friday of month and it’s free to get through the door. Plus, peep the drink specials at the bar. DC Stand Up! I’ll see you there.
