Pissed I can’t make it to the BLK JKS show tonight…

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

But I have a prior, much more important appointment to make, so I’m just going to have to wait for the next go around if/when they come to town. Hopefully they rock out the Black Cat Back stage tonight, and if you are free you should go! BLK JKS are a South African band that blends a lot of traditional South African rhythms and styles with indie rock. I got turned onto them by The Fader and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I’m calling this a No Haterade Zone for my man Michael Franti’s song “Say Hay”, used by Craig Ferguson in the intro to an episode of the Late Late Show.

Ok, yeah this is a pretty cool flashmob event out in LA. What I love is that some of the dudes were really into doing some of the moves. Freaked out some women in the store, shit is dope!

African Punk

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Wow, just wow. This is the kind of stuff that I am only discovering now about Africa. This documentary spotlights the Punk/Anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa, and the current wave of African Punk bands and artists. Some really excellent awe-inspiring stuff!
