Clearly, the M.I.A. thread runs deep with his group. It’s kinda obvious because the lead singer is a backup singer/dancer for M.I.A. But aside from that, Cherry B and Instinct actually really have a strong and fun sound, mixing so many influences….
Ok, actually, I am not going to dwell on the influences. What I am going to say is that a band like De Tropix is a perfect example of the collision of people of color, third world migration to the west, and access to and every culture and subculture via Internet, nightclubs, record stores, and all your friends from high school, from all over the world.
